Answer to the FAQ of why we don’t take insurance for couple’s therapy:

  • Insurance companies require that we are treating one family member’s diagnosis.  In fact, insurance companies view couple’s therapy as a adjunct treatment of one family member’s mental health diagnosis.  When working with relationship concerns, problems addressed in session are due to dynamics between two people and not generally due to one person’s mental health diagnosis. We can not say we are treating one member’s mental health when the problem is relational. There are rare exceptions where the focus is specifically one member of the couple’s mental health needs and couple’s therapy is an adjunct to that person’s individual therapy.
